J-Plasma is an minimally invasive procedure designed to an individual’s overall well being through enhanced appearance. It uses the precision of cold helium plasma (a type of gas) and radio frequency for controlled epidermal ablation , stimulate collagen production and tighten sagging skin. While this is considered minimally invasive to the outermost layer of the skin, J-Plasma also provides significant improvement in wrinkle reduction, acne scars, sun damage, pore size and skin texture. Due to its relative short healing time, many patients opt for J-Plasma due to a faster recovery compared to traditional methods of skin resurfacing.

What Is J-Plasma Skin Resurfacing?

What Is Renuvion?

Renuvion is a medical grade device using the J-Plasma technology. Renuvion is used in several cosmetic procedures such as skin tightening and resurfacing. Using Renuvion generates plasma energy at precise levels to induce contraction in tissues and stimulate collagen production leading to tighter smoother skin and a better appearance. Renuvion is a safe and successful method that may be tailored for use on numerous areas of the body where skin rejuvenation is desired.

Is J-Plasma the Same as Renuvion?

Yes. The technology of Renuvion is identical to the technology of J-Plasma. The original company producing J-Plasma now markets their product as Renuvion. Both products utilize the same technology  cold helium plasma and RF to treat and tighten aging skin, and produce a very positive outcome.

 What Does Skin Resurfacing Mean?

Skin Resurfacing is a minimal invasive skin treatment used to stimulate your body’s ability to repair itself and remove the damaged top layers of your skin. As a result of the cells being replaced by new cells, it can stimulate and produce an increased amount of collagen. Skin Resurfacing is generally recommended for patients who would like to improve their overall appearance and eliminate early warning signs of aging such as fine lines, discoloration, post acne scarring, large pores or any other blemishes on your skin to leave it looking healthier, smoother, and more pliable.

How Does J-Plasma Skin Resurfacing Work?

J-Plasma Skin Resurfacing uses low level radio frequency and helium plasma to heat the skin enough to cause contraction and remodeling through stimulation of collagen.

Helium Gas

Gas helium offers a milder alternative to standard laser skin resurfacing as it allows the creation of cold plasma, which can safely and accurately treat the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Radiofrequency Energy

Radiofrequency (RF) energy is applied to the deeper layers of the skin, which stimulates the collagen and elastin production and enhances the quality of the skin and its appearance.

Epidermal Ablation

After the treatment, the uppermost layer of your epidermis will have been exfoliated revealing the underlying, smoother skin surface.

Dermal Heating

Heating deeper layers of the dermis tightens collagen fibers to make skin smoother and less wrinkled, and stimulates new collagen production.

Healing and Collagen Remodelling

Over time, your skin will heal and rebuild its own collagen creating a more youthful and elastic texture.but it also depends on the skin type so results may vary among patients.

Is J-Plasma Suitable for Pakistani or Darker Skin?

The skin resurfacing system called J-Plasma may work for some different skin color types but for each specific person it needs to be determined.

At Capella Esthetics, every patient who comes in for a consultation will get a comprehensive consultation to determine the best and most effective treatment for his or her unique situation.

Fitzpatrick Skin Types I–III

For patients with light skin tones (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I – III), J-Plasma resurfacing is a very good option because risk of post inflammatory pigmentation is lower and it is minimally invasive resulting in quick healing times.

Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV–VI

Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV–VI are represented among the Pakistani population. This skin type will require special preparation in order to reduce the formation of transient pigmentation changes, but J-Plasma is still viable. In this case, it is advisable to customize the parameters of the procedure and prescribe a skincare protocol after the procedure. For patients with Fitzpatrick types IV-VI there are a few alternatives.

Alternatives for Darker Skin

There are other ways to do this if your skin is darker. If the patient has a considerable risk of developing pigmentation irregularities or has some contraindications for J-Plasma, RF microneedling, and other collagen induction therapies might be recommended.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Those who desire to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, uneven texture, big pores, or skin laxity should consider J-Plasma skin resurfacing. Good candidates are those who are generally healthy and have realistic expectations of the results and recovery of surgery.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

Patients should not resort to this procedure if they have active skin infections, some chronic diseases, impaired healing, or are pregnant. A specialist’s evaluation is mandatory before undergoing treatment.

J-Plasma Treatment Procedure

Skin Preparation

The initial process of your therapy will be a complete cleaning of the skin that will eliminate contaminants, oil and cosmetics from the skin. The treatment room is also equipped to provide the utmost comfort and quality of the treatment.

Anaesthesia

Depending on the area to be treated and the person, the doctor will numb the area using a local anaesthetic or another appropriate technique. This enables you to feel at ease during the therapy.

Eye Protection

At the beginning of the procedure, special eye goggles or shields are put on to protect this sensitive area. This is a crucial one for eye protection, and cannot be overlooked.

Plasma Application

The J-Plasma handpiece is designed to glide over the targeted area, while RF energy and helium plasma provide controlled energy to rejuvenate the skin at the deeper level, causing the skin to tighten.

Immediate Skin Response

The treatment will cause your skin to be hot to the touch and red, but there is also the possibility of erythema and edema. Some slight swelling and tightness can also be experienced.

Dressing and Post-Procedure Care

For comfort and to promote healing, a dressing or special cream may be placed on the treated area. You will be provided with comprehensive post-care information that will include advice on sun protection and on how to treat the skin with a special topical cream to promote optimal healing and the best possible results.

Recovery Timeline

First 24–48 Hours

The first two days after treatment are marked by redness, slight swelling and a sunburn-like sensation of dry, tight skin. The skin may start to heal, causing some crusting or dryness in certain areas. Be sure to keep your skin moisturized and to follow any directions provided by your skin care provider.

Days Three to Seven

The treated area may have scratches or flakes that expose new skin. The skin may remain slightly irritated, but the redness should start to go away. Peeling will occur, it is best to leave it alone so the healing process isn’t interrupted.

One to Two Weeks

Most patients see improvement during the first one to two weeks after treatment, and a healthier looking complexion. Many people don’t feel uncomfortable going back to their normal activities after treatment, but you might have some pink skin.

Several Weeks to Months

Treatment continues to stimulate the production of new collagen for several months, so there are cumulative results. Patients notice an improvement over time in their skin, with an overall more refined texture and tone, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and tighter skin.

Aftercare Instructions

After treatment, use of sun protection is essential and should be used on a daily basis. Only use the skin care products that your doctor has prescribed. It is important to drink lots of water and to not use harsh topical treatments or exfoliants on the skin until it is healed. Returning to the office for any follow up treatment is very important as is not picking or scratching the skin.

J-Plasma Resurfacing vs Subdermal Renuvion Tightening

With the same innovative helium plasma technology, both J-Plasma Subdermal and Resurfacing Renuvion tightening treatments are effective against different conditions. While J-Plasma Resurfacing is applied to the top layer of the skin to eliminate wrinkles, irregularities and pigment cells, subdermal renuvion is applied to the deeper layers of the skin to tighten them.

J-Plasma vs CO₂ Laser Resurfacing

Both of the procedures enhance the quality of skin and both increase the collagen production in the skin. But, unlike the CO2 lasers, J-Plasma skin resurfacing doesn’t deliver as much heat into the top layer of the skin during the treatment. As a result, J-Plasma resurfacing may be considered a safer and alternative to laser skin resurfacing with a shorter recovery period depending on the skin type.

J-Plasma vs RF Microneedling

RF microneedling involves stimulating the collagen with the radiofrequency and micro-invasive action to rejuvenate the deep dermis. Because of its ability to provide superficial remodeling and controlled dermal heating, J-PLasma is good for the management of wrinkles, uneven texture and laxity.

J-Plasma vs Plasma Fibroblast Pen

Plasma Fibroblast Pen treatments provide gentle and controlled micro-damage through the application of plasma energy to the surface of the skin. A more advanced and sophisticated medical device called J-Plasma is capable of deeper and more precise collagen production and remodeling and of individualized approaches.
